eddie vedder - ukulele songs move the house

About
late 90's, Eddie Vedder learned to play the ukulele under the tutelage of the great Pete Townshend (The Who). Shortly thereafter, the Binaural Pearl Jam gave us " Soon Forget", the first of many songs that will produce this combo "Vedder + ukulele, and very suspiciously similar to" Blue, Red and Grey "Townshend . And ending the year 2000, any obsessive fan Seattle band (the author of this blog, for example) on your hard disk was shocked with a lot of demos Vedder playing with his ukulele, an instrument by which the singer professed great love: "the more melodic instrument in the world" say several times.
Over ten years later, several of these demos found its place in the second solo album Vedder: Ukulele Songs (in English, to tell our ukulele ukulele), a neat job and essentially even, with moments of true brilliance of our favorite baritone.
is a recurring joke on the internet can say that Eddie Vedder get to sing the Chinese restaurant menu and move you to tears. Continuing the line of his previous solo work Into The Wild, Vedder explores the corners of his voice that bring this joke online irrefutable truth. Away from the hardness required to be blunt in front of a band like Pearl Jam, Ukulele Songs brings us back to the lower register and sweet who a few years ago climbed cranes to jump on the television audience. Songs like "You're True" , " Satellite" or Once in a While " highlight this" sweet "reflective necessary consequence the passage of time: no need to hide the depth behind the falls and the growls, something that seemed logical and necessary to twenty years. There is no fear of exposing the depth not hide behind the guitar overdrive. All the sensitivity of a man like Vedder is exposed and unprotected for us to appreciate
If there is a "problem" with Ukulele Songs, is the limitation of the instrument in terms of musical variety. The truth is that, beyond its melodic possibilities, ukulele can only offer up to a point of compositional possibilities, and when it is the only instrument used in the disc, you can become at times repetitive, something like a great song to listen to half an hour. This is not necessarily bad (hence the quotes around "problem"), but it may affect the perception of the highlights of the disc, which are obscured because of the absence of showing each other new songs. The way around this obstacle is with great lyrics and excellent vocal performance. The part of speech is a guarantee, and at times the disk on which writing is more inspired Vedder witnesses are fond of pure magic.
Reinforcing this idea of \u200b\u200b"novelty", it becomes evident that two of the most outstanding disc partnerships are: Cat Power seamlessly weaves her voice with that of Eddie in the beautiful " Tonight You Belong To Me" , while "Sleepless Nights " is capable of producing a physical response to the listener (especially chills ) when Vedder and Glen Hansard singing the chorus together (one of the most heartbreaking melodies that Eddie has made in recent years). The closing ' Dream A Little Dream "is another beauty in which the singer seems to pay homage to Tom Waits voice scraping with a result that makes it impossible to not love the song.
Ukulele Songs
certainly would have benefited from a smaller selection of Songs to maximize its effect, but it remains a gem in the catalog of one of the best vocalists of the last twenty years. Already purchased and await your arrival in my mailbox forward, but meanwhile you can watch on the link below ...
